WOW Cafe wins Best of Show at Po'boy Festival
In order to find the best po-boy sandwich in New Orleans, or the world for that matter, it would make sense to ask 50,000 New Orleanians, and that’s exactly what happened at the 5th Annual New Orleans Po-Boy Preservation Festival. 61-unit WOW Café paraded away with the coveted ‘Best of Show’ award at the 2011 New Orleans Po-Boy Preservation Festival (more formerly known as the Oak Street Po-Boy Festival), beating out over 100 other po-boy options.
Upon winning the award, WOW Café founder and CEO Paul Ballard stated, “We were incredibly honored to receive the Best of Fest recognition; we’ve always been proud of our freshness, preparation, as well as inventiveness in the kitchen and this is an affirmation that we’re doing things right, and that the ingenuity doesn’t stop at entrees, sauces, wings, salads, and apps. We’re all very proud of this feather in our cap.” After awarding WOW Café their highest honor, Festival Po-Boy Judge Leroy Mitchell stated, “The Shanghai Shrimp was an overwhelming favorite for the judges. It has everything we were looking for: a classic New Orleans shrimp po-boy, with an international flavor from the sauce and vegetables. The flavor is almost unique and familiar at the same time. Delicious to say the least. Well deserved Best of Show.”
